The 12 Weakest Cryptocurrencies

Martin Weiss

Many newcomers rush into cryptocurrencies precisely at the wrong time — when speculative buying has reached a frenzy, crypto exchanges are overwhelmed and prices are on the brink of the next crash.

That’s a shame for two reasons: They lose a lot of money. Then they lose interest, bow out and miss out on the truly big opportunities.

To avoid this double disaster (and others), I recommend that both novice and experienced investors adhere to a few basic guidelines of crypto investing.

First, don’t bet the farm. Unless you’re a high roller, limit your stake to about 5% of your liquid assets.

Second, avoid parabolic surges. I know it’s tempting. But it’s the worst time to buy. Instead, start buying in small increments when the market is down. Then, add a bit more if it falls even further. Right now, for example, it looks like the cryptocurrency market is sliding into a relatively quiet sideways chop. Given the tremendous future potential of this new kind of money — and this new kind of Internet — it could be a good time to build a portfolio of the best currencies.

Third, the most-promising cryptocurrencies aren’t always the biggest. Some of the most popular, like Bitcoin, can make you good money. But they are not always the coins offering the best combination of investment potential and advanced technology. Also consider newer projects like EOS or NEO.

Fourth, be sure to give the weakest cryptocurrencies a wide berth.

Based on our ratings model, which considers each coin’s investor risk and reward plus technology and adoption fundamentals, coins with a Weiss Cryptocurrency Rating of D- or lower include the following 12:

Auraracoin (D-), Comet (E-), Electroneum (E+), Expanse (E), Gulden (D-), Matchpool (E), Magacoin (E-), Novacoin (E), PotCoin (D-), Quark (E-), Rise (D-) and SaluS (E-).

On the Weiss Ratings scale (from A to E), D is described as “weak,” and E is “very weak.” The plus and minus signs indicate the upper and lower third of each grade range, respectively.

(Note: Weiss Cryptocurrency Ratings can change frequently. To get the latest as soon as they’re released, subscribe here.)

Fifth, don’t store your cryptocurrencies on an exchange. It could leave you vulnerable to possible hacks and possible mishaps. Instead, move your crypto to a wallet that you control with your own personal key.

Last, always appoint a designated successor. This is not just for estate planning. If something should happen to you — or you just happen to forget critical info — it’s important for someone you trust to have all your login credentials and keys.

Best wishes,

Martin

Ohh, really Electroneum is among 12 weakest crypto? Also Weiss public a list of Best crypto to invest for 2018 mentioned that Electroneum one of Top coin to invest and hold. Now, you guys public it as the weakest. Funny

Mack reply_all tony March 20, 2018

Etn Electroneum grade should be much higher. The Weiss Rating should look at more factors about electroneum before listing it as a coin to avoid.

Hi I would like to know your reasoning behind electroneums rating? It makes no sense
1.) one of the most successful ICO ever.
2.) spreading the use of its coin by giving people free coins from downloading their app = mass adoption. Who doesn’t love free money no matter how much it is
3.) a coin based on using the telecom company to promote their coin by buying and selling credit, data etc in 3rd world companies. Which by the way telecom companies would love as it is a market not available to them.
4.) it has a user base of over a million people And is constantly growing( more than some cryptos that you’d probably think are better)
5.) ease of use. They want to make using etn much easier then bitcoin by using a decimal system the same as fiat.
6.) if they actually sign with a major telecoms company it will skyrocket let’s be honest I know it’s a big “if” but the majority of coins don’t have a white paper.
7.) it’s partnered with several brand companies such as Xius (65 million users), BMedia (20 million), Effortel (5 million), and FanFare (1 million)
8.) it’s app is available in 20 languages (aims to have 30)
9.) user friendly
10.) future development into the gaming industry which it’s not even looking at yet because vendors “love it so much”
11.) frequent updates from Richard on what the future holds and what problems will be sorted.
I think your base of reasoning of a E+ is very biased who knows why. Could you give a reason for such a terrible rating?. It’s a coin 5 months old the community knows there has been problems but they are fixing them as they are “noobs” to the industry. It’s a terrible rating that could potentially ruin a coin which has a good cause behind it. Maybe you’d have to be paid to positively promote a cryto or if it is in your best interests. Maybe you are creating that rating so you can buy very cheap then promote it to its actual rating and you can make a nice profit. Looking forward to your reasoning behind it.

ICOULDNT PUT IT BETTER MYSELF.. CHEERS TO YOU DEAN.. HONESTLY I DONT BELIVE THAT THEY WILL GIVE A UPDATE OR AN EXPLANATION FOR THEIR GRADING, BUT THE WHOLE SUPPORT FROM THE COMUNITY IN THESE COMENTS IS FOR ETN… SO YES ITS BETTER IF THEY GIVE AN EXPLANATION LIKE A SERIOUS COMPANY ON THEIR REASONING FOR THIS DECIDION.

Well put…All of it.

Zac reply_all Dean March 21, 2018

thats a well structured reply Dean, I too would be interested in how Weiss have come up with an E+ rating. Even considering the recent drop in prices (all crypto) the price in fiat is still 3.5 times ICO.

ETNFKR reply_all Dean March 22, 2018

There’s a lot of bullsh*t here, only empty words!
A sh*tcoin that went from 0.20$ to 0.03$.
We don’t care about how many companies are “etn contracts”, we wantt profitability. Which is 00000000, by a long time. Look at Potcoin, not a lot of advertising, no telecom contracts and it’s 0.12$.
ETN deserves 0 note, useless coin and paid haters all over the place. Try to leave a negative review on their Fb page, the paid haters will rip you off. That’s Electroneum professionalism, that’s how they have good ratings. Their value is 0.03$.

Ken reply_all ETNFKR April 3, 2018

Potcoin is like most alts and has dropped from a high of 0.42 to today at .08. Thank you for starting your post out by correctly identifying exactly what you were going to say. I can’t agree more you were correct. BS and empty words.

IMHO anyone getting their news from FB needs to learn how to conduct in depth research and investigate thoroughly any coins before they buy. I put in my work and ETN is a legit coin that is conducting legit business within the mobile industry. ETN was born from a group of guys sitting around playing with blockchain and learning how it works and how to develop it when they conceived the idea of ETN. Have they had their issues? Sure they have and the developers have been up front and honest about them and fixed whatever has been thrown at them.

Considering what they have been through and are still growing and continuing to develop their products I find it hard to believe, yet i’m glad, this coin is still inexpensive to invest in and quite possibly well below where it should be.

Tomas Allende reply_all Dean March 30, 2018

Unless they follow Monero’s path, ASICs will hijack the hashrate, miners will vanish, and the ASICs won’t be profitable for long. The coin is doomed.

Reed March 20, 2018

Expanse gets downgraded after one of it’s founders proves Weiss does not know how to value cryptocurrency. Great way to try and attack a legitimate token project.

datcha March 20, 2018

I am very disappointed with your grade E + assigned electroneum ETN.

ETNFKR reply_all datcha March 22, 2018

Sh*tcoin, E+ is too much

Tom March 20, 2018

I think you’re dead wrong about ETN in which case, I have serious doubts about your entire “analysis”.

Carl WIleman March 20, 2018

Hi

Can I ask you what is the E+ rating on Electroneum based on please.

ETNFKR reply_all Carl WIleman March 22, 2018

Because it’s a sh*tcoin.
Behind marketing, value is 0.

Zubair March 20, 2018

Electroneum in 14 weakest cryptocurrencies?? I guess bitconnect would be in top 5 in your point of view 😂

c March 20, 2018

Funny i think every 1 can see you are good in the stock market but have clearly no experience in the crypto research world.
How can you rate ETN so low.
anyway free marketing.

Dr. Forlini March 20, 2018

Electroneum can be more accurately graded B. Room to grow? Sure, but they are on an unprecedented route to mass adoption. Literally, no other cryptocurrency has experienced an influx of more than 1,000,000 users in less than 6 months. This is not up to debate because I d not entertain inaccuracies. Fix your list and fix your reputation by removing ETN from the “worst cryptos.”

ETNFKR reply_all Dr. Forlini March 22, 2018

Paid hater!
ETN is a sh*tcoin and overrated. Values 0 without marketing

Rosalie March 20, 2018

I can’t imagine why electroneum would be included in this list.
Looking forward to an updated grading from Weiss in the near future.

JB March 20, 2018

Please, can you explain why you believe Electroneum is a weak coin and should be given a wide berth?

Edmund Parry March 20, 2018

Seriously…Explain your E+ grade for Electroneum. Like every other educated holder of Electroneum I would like to know exactly how you came up with their E+ rating. This coin is already a tangible product that yields anonymity like monero and the ingenuity of the marketing team led to the creation of a successful android miner at this time which I am currently using. Great communication from their team and many updates on how they are proceeding. Very transparent. So please…explain how you butchered this rating so badly.

ETNFKR reply_all Edmund Parry March 22, 2018

You hear what you’re saying?????? Android miner?? That’s a simulator, not a miner. Minergate and Neon and miners, not ETN. ETN app is just a benchmark app, no miner. LOOOL.

Crypto Man reply_all ETNFKR March 27, 2018

The miner is a simulator, but people still get free ETN to help with expenses, especially folks from third world countries find it valuable.!!!!!

Kevin March 20, 2018

There’s 3 know facts in the crypto world.
1. There’s a lot of Ripple haters
2. There’s a lot of Electroneum haters
3. There’s a lot of “experts” reporting on things that don’t understand.

Oh well, haters ganna hate and Electroneum will keep holding its spot in the top 100, currently it’s #59 just above Dragonchain, which by the way is a company with a very bright future.

ETNFKR reply_all Kevin March 22, 2018

ETN is just a sh*tcoin. Worth nothing, without marketing!

tt92618 March 21, 2018

Bitcoin magazines necand Nasdaq called your ratings laughably bad. I’m inclined to agree.

Stephen Elliott March 21, 2018

Hi

Could you please explain the reasons for Electroneums E+ rating?

I see in your January 2018 ratings that they scored a C- the same as bitcoin.

Why the huge downgrade ?

Thanks
Stephen Elliott

Ralle Ranson March 21, 2018

Electroneum E+??? Damn what Kind of weird ranking is this? 1,1Million live Users ant the biggest ICO ever and there is a E+?

Ok look, i mean ist a monero coin. And yes, there was a difficult block to mine and there is a rumor about the asic miner and the technical Fails with cryptopia. But this is your reason for an E+. Come on:-)
Youre funny

ETNFKR reply_all Ralle Ranson March 22, 2018

1 Million users? only5% are real,, the rest is marketing. Aahhahahahahha, is not April, 1st. What do you expect from a 3 cents coin? :))))

whoami March 21, 2018

$ALQO is best coin atm. German made, and Germany it’s first country to legalize Crypto without any tax payment.
Huge potential / great team / great community !
NO ICO
NO PREMINE
Can you make a rating about this one?
https://t.me/alqochat

ETNFKR March 22, 2018

As you can see, 90% of comments are about ETN. 89.9% of them are investors and paid haters.
There are a lot of coins in this article, but no, they are stuck on ETN.
Great article, don’t get intimidated.

matt morgan March 22, 2018

haha how funny your ratings about ETN
